The contest was held with the theme of "innovative and marketable products" and "creation of a new demand for tea". 89 items (57 from Japan, 32 from abroad) were submitted.

8 jury members, including Chinese and French members, fairly judged entries, and out of 89, they selected the winners of the Grand Gold Prize (9), the Gold Prize (19), the Package Grand Prize (2), and the Frontier Prize (1).
